In 1997 the Baldwin Public Library moved into the new community building located at 400 Cedar Street. Additional space has allowed the library to expand its collection of books, videos, periodicals and services. We are now open 41 hours a week including Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings.
A special children's room provides separate space for the Tuesday library story time programs for 3-5 year olds. The children's section includes a large collection of puppets and videos. Each June we conduct a special summer reading program designed to encourage children to read for pleasure and explore all the public library resources. Periodically we sponsor other special programs such as National Library Week, Children's Book Week or holiday programs.
Looking for historical information about this area or interested in Genealogy? We invite you to explore our history room. We have microfilms of U.S. Census records for 1880 and 1910 and Wisconsin census records for 1905 in our collection and other census records may be ordered. We also have a few histories of local families and a card file containing birth, death, and marriage records taken from the Baldwin Bulletin.
Area history may be found in the microfilm collection of the Baldwin Bulletin from 1874, 1974, or the Hudson Star Observer from 1869-1873. Two microfilm readers are available for your use and additional microfilms my be ordered through the Inter-Library Loan program. A collection of videos covering local events such as Dutch Days celebrations, and events is also available. Mounted and hanging on the wall is a 1876 map of townships in St. Croix County donated by Warren VanRanst. A large map case contains historical township maps from plat books.
An attractive reading area provides a place to read magazines, the Eau Claire Leader daily paper or one of the three area papers. Three computers are available for personal use such as writing resumes or surfing the Internet. Whether doing research or leisure reading we invite you to stop in and use our collection of books, periodicals and videos. If you need materials that are not in our own collection we will be happy to order them through the Inter-Library Loan program.
People who are interested in promoting and helping the library serve the community are invited to become Friends of the Library. Whether you have a few minutes a week or can only volunteer for occasional one time events, your services are needed. Come in and add your name to the list of Friends of the Library.
